Editorial Policy of Vande Bharat News
This policy explains the standards that Vande Bharat News, a Hindi-language news channel and digital news organisation in India, follows when it gathers, verifies, publishes and corrects news. It applies to our TV broadcasts, website, app, YouTube and social media content, and to staff and reporters in the VB Reporter network.
Our mission and independence
We aim to report news accurately, fairly and quickly in Hindi. Editorial decisions should be based on news value, public interest and available evidence. Advertising and sponsored material should be clearly identified and kept distinct from independent editorial reporting.
Accuracy and verification
- We check facts before publication and, where possible, confirm them with at least two independent sources or an official document.
- We check names, places, numbers, dates and quotes against the original source.
- We assess photos, videos and social media posts before using them. Viral claims should not be reported as fact until verified.
- On developing stories, we update reports as facts are confirmed and show the time of the update where appropriate.
- We attribute claims to their source, report allegations as allegations, and seek the response of the person or organisation concerned when reasonably practicable.
Sources and attribution
- We prefer named sources. Anonymous sources may be used when necessary for safety or a clear public-interest reason, with editorial review and corroboration where possible.
- We credit the work of others and do not copy another publisher’s content.
- Press releases and official statements should be identified as such.
News, opinion and analysis
We aim to keep news reports separate from opinion, analysis, debates and panel discussions, and label them clearly. Views expressed by guests, panellists and contributors are their own.
Advertising and sponsored content
Advertisements should be marked as advertisements, and sponsored content should be labelled as sponsored. Advertising and sponsorship should not determine the facts or conclusions in independent news coverage.
Our reporters and the VB Reporter network
Field reports are reviewed by an editor on the VB NewsDesk before publication. Reporters are expected to follow this policy, avoid gifts or payments that could improperly influence coverage, disclose conflicts of interest to their editor, and follow editorial instructions. Responsible reporting
- We respect privacy and dignity and do not identify victims of sexual violence or minors involved in crime or abuse.
- We take particular care with stories involving religion, caste and community, and do not publish hate speech or content that incites violence.
- We aim to report suicide and mental health responsibly and avoid unnecessary graphic detail.
- We use graphic images and videos sparingly and with care.
- We seek to comply with applicable law, including laws on defamation and reporting court proceedings.
Conflicts of interest
Journalists should disclose personal, political or financial interests that could affect a story. Where a material conflict exists, the journalist should be removed from that assignment or the conflict otherwise appropriately managed.
